Le thème de l’espace comme construction sociale, à la fois abstraite et réelle, est central dans la pratique de Marie-Claire Blais. Chaque projet est une occasion renouvelée de visiter les schèmes culturels d’appropriation de l’espace et de mise en scène du regard qui informent notre perception depuis la modernité. D’exprimer cette dynamique par un travail attentif sur le champ du visible où la lumière est le fil conducteur de son approche plastique. Une perspective qui lui permet de pervertir la notion de limite entre les éléments, les certitudes, les véhicules du pouvoir, pour leur substituer l’espoir d’une ouverture.
Diplômée en architecture, Marie-Claire Blais se concentre à temps plein sur sa production en arts visuels, comprenant le dessin, la sculpture et la peinture. Elle vit et travaille à Montréal.

The theme of space as a social construct, both abstract and real, is central to Marie-Claire Blais’ practice. Each project is a renewed opportunity to visit the cultural schemes of appropriation of space and staging of the gaze that inform perception since modernity. Light is the guiding them in this plastic approach, a concept by which Blais perverts the notions of limit between elements, of certainties and of vehicles of power, to replace them with the hope of an opening.
Holding a degree in architecture, Marie-Claire Balis focuses full-time on her production in visual arts, including drawing, sculpture and painting. She lives and works in Montreal.
