La pratique picturale d\u2019Anthony Burnham se concentre sur les questions li\u00e9es \u00e0 la repr\u00e9sentation et \u00e0 ses dispositifs. Tant\u00f4t compos\u00e9s de motifs issus d\u2019\u00e9l\u00e9ments construits puis transcrits sur le support \u00e0 la mani\u00e8re d\u2019une nature morte; tant\u00f4t organis\u00e9s autour d\u2019images et d\u2019objets ayant subis diverses op\u00e9rations de m\u00e9diatisation gr\u00e2ce aux proc\u00e9d\u00e9s de reproduction m\u00e9canique (photographie, photocopie, impression num\u00e9rique), les mises en sc\u00e8ne de Burnham surgissent d\u2019un lent processus d\u2019observation. Dans sa d\u00e9marche, l\u2019artiste s\u2019interroge principalement sur la mani\u00e8re dont la peinture peut revivifier ses responsabilit\u00e9s \u00e0 l\u2019endroit de la repr\u00e9sentation. Dans cette perspective, Anthony Burnham en arrive \u00e0 constater que la peinture actuelle n\u2019arrive plus \u00e0 s\u2019extraire du conceptualisme, alors que pendant de nombreuses ann\u00e9es, c\u2019est le conceptualisme qui tentait de se dissocier de la peinture.<\/p>\n

Anthony Burnham\u2019s pictorial approach focuses on representation and its methods. Sometimes composed of elements constructed and then transcribed like a still life; sometimes organised around found images and objects that have been mediated through various processes of mechanical reproduction (photography, photocopy, digital prints), Burnham\u2019s intriguing combinations arise from a slow exploratory process of staging in the studio. His work questions how painting can revive its responsibility to representation. Burnham has come to the conclusion that, in the course of conceptualism’s attempt to separate itself from painting, contemporary painting can no longer be separated from conceptualism.<\/p>\n
