Cette propension \u00e0 la classification s\u2019est grandement acc\u00e9l\u00e9r\u00e9e avec l\u2019apport des outils num\u00e9riques. Au 20e si\u00e8cle, la notion de catalogage s\u2019est ins\u00e9r\u00e9e dans les fondements conceptuels de la pratique de l\u2019art. Les surr\u00e9alistes fran\u00e7ais ont \u00e9t\u00e9 parmi les premiers \u00e0 se servir de notion d\u2019inventaire en tant que forme po\u00e9tique. Aujourd\u2019hui, la pratique picturale fait fr\u00e9quemment appel \u00e0 ces notions.<\/p>\n L’exposition r\u00e9unit les peintures de trois artistes montr\u00e9alais dont la d\u00e9marche table sur une approche po\u00e9tique de la notion de catalogage. Francine Savard compose de tableaux monochromes dont les dimensions et couleurs s\u2019appuient sur une analyse de pr\u00e9visions m\u00e9t\u00e9o \u00e9tal\u00e9es de mai 1999 \u00e0 mai 2000. De son c\u00f4t\u00e9, Daniel Langevin s\u2019inspire de l\u2019architecture visuelle qui est celle des moteurs de recherche d\u2019images sur le web; chaque composition \u00e9tant associ\u00e9e \u00e0 une recherche th\u00e9matique sp\u00e9cifique. Quant \u00e0 lui, Martin Bourdeau fait appel \u00e0 des proc\u00e9d\u00e9s du graphisme pour d\u00e9cliner des incursions po\u00e9tiques dans l\u2019histoire de l\u2019art. For centuries, mankind has been compiling repertories and inventories in order to classify what we know about the world. This inclination to classify knowledge has been accelerated by the contribution of digital tools. In the 20th century, the idea of cataloguing has inserted itself within the conceptual foundations of the art practice. The French Surrealists were among the first ones to use the notion of inventory as a poetic form. Nowadays, the pictorial practices frequently rely on these notions.<\/em><\/p>\n This exhibition features the works of three Montreal painters whose practices focus on poetic approaches gravitating around the idea of cataloguing. Francine Savard composes monochrome paintings whose dimensions are based on an analysis of weather forecasts spreading from May 1999 to May 2000. Daniel Langevin compositions are based on the visual architecture provided by web image-search engines; specific thematic inquiries are the basis of each painting\u2019s elaboration.
